Voici deux films portant sur l’urbanisme en Angleterre et au États-Unis d’Amérique, tout deux portant sur les problèmes urbains et tout deux proposant des solutions. Le premier dates de 1949, New Town est un dessin animé anglais, produit par le British Government Public Information Films. Il s’agit d’une présentation des cité-jardins de E. Howard, théorie présenté dans son ouvrage, GARDEN CITIES OF TO-MORROW.
Le second film dates de 1956, Dynamic American City, Partie I et Partie II, il s’agit d’un documentaire produit par la National Chamber américaine. C’est magnifique exemple pour comprendre l’évolution des concepts urbanistiques, le documentaire présente les politiques de renouvellement urbain, Urban renewal, à travers plusieurs exemples de villes américaines. Une politique de modernisation des villes est posé comme la seul solution pour combattre l’étalement urbain. Par modernisation, les auteurs entendent destruction et reconstruction et ceci sans prise en considération du patrimoine urbain considéré comme obsolète.

I present you two movies dealing with town planning in England and in USA, both have for purpose to explain and to give solution to urban problems. The first movie dates from 1949, New Town is English cartoon, produced by the British Government Public Information Films. It is a presentation of the garden city of E.Howard, theory presented in his book, GARDEN CITIES OF TO-MORROW.
The second movie dates from 1956, Dynamic American City, Part I and Part II, it is a documentary produced by the National Chamber of USA. It is a good example for understands how an urban concept can evaluate; the documentary gives an overlook of urban renewal policies across American cities. A policy of modernisation is lain as the only solution for fighting the urban sprawl. By modernisation, the authors mean destruction and reconstruction, and this without takes into consideration the urban building heritages, which is considerate as obsolete.
